Who We Are

We are a Church affiliated pre-school, but we do not teach religion. We do celebrate the Christian Holidays of Christmas and Easter, as well as, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick's Day. We also say grace before our snack.

We will, however, reinforce basic Christian values (i.e. kindness, fair play, honesty, etc.). Our philosophy is that each child learns, through our teaching as well as through our example, the value of sharing, taking turns, being kind, fair play, having fun, and making new friends.

We are so pleased that you are considering Central United Methodist Preschool for your child's first school experience! We all know that children learn what they live, and therefore, it is, and always has been, our firm commitment to our students that we surround them with an environment that is conducive to the development of a happy and well adjusted child.

History

Over 50 years ago, there was a need for a kindergarten, as Honesdale School District did not provide one. Mrs. Beulah Eastman saw this need and went about filling it.

Today, this program is a preschool.  Presently, we offer a four (4) year old program that meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 - 11:30 a.m.  We have two teachers for each class of 16 children.  These teachers are Mrs. Kristen Brundager and Mrs. Marisa Loesch  There is also a three (3) year old program that meets Tuesday and Thursday from 9 - 11:30 a.m.  Our teachers for this program are  Mrs.Kristen Brundage and Mrs. Allison Wolfe.  Classes are held from early September to late May.  When possible, we follow the Wayne Highlands School District schedule.

Age Requirements

We follow Wayne Highlands School District's age requirements. Children MUST be 3 years old by September 1st for the Nursery School, and 4 years old by September 1st for the Preschool. Children also MUST be potty-trained before entering the class.

Registration and Tuition

The registration fee is $40.00 for both schools, and is non-refundable. Tuition for the Nursery School is $90.00 per month, while the fee for the Preschool is $105.00 per month. We require a paid application to ensure enrollment.

What We Do

We follow the Wayne Highland School District recommendations for preparing your child for kindergarten.  We focus on colors, shapes, numbers, ABC's, the child's address and phone number, along with a variety of other simple facts that are common to everyday life.  We learn many songs, finger plays, and games for each season.  We will take many walking field trips around the town, such as to the Library and the YMCA (to name just a few).  We also have special fun days, including but not limited to camping day, carnival day, and cowboy day.  We also have a computer available to our students in order to familiarize them with the basics of this essential learning tool of our modern world.

Newsletter
Each month we will e-mail a newsletter addressing the coming month.  It will contain information regarding upcoming events, field trips, and special days. Please keep this handy so that you can prepare your child accordingly.

Snacks
We feel it is beneficial to serve juice, milk or water with crackers, and cookies or pretzels.  To help keep tuition costs down, we will ask each parent to provide 3 days worth of snacks.  Providing a special snack for a child's birthday is always welcome.  Please check with us regarding any food allergies a child may have.
