Pastor Beckie reported for Mission and Outreach.  We are collecting Layette and Birthing Kits for the Conference.  All kits will go to Haiti.  We sent over 1,600 health kits from our church alone.  Many organizations helped to make these kits.

Jim Shelp spoke as Lay Leader of the church.  He discussed the Visioning Committee and “The Great Emergence” (a book the committee is using for the year).  He questions how the church will thrive when so many young people have never been in a formal church service.

Pete Wilken reported the Men’s Group held a successful Pancake Supper in March.  However, the dishwasher is in need of repair or a new dishwasher must be purchased.  Bill Castek of Castek Flower Shop spoke to the group about seeds and gardening at their last meeting.

Carol Chalmers reported for the SPR Committee.  The committee gave a profile to Superintendent the Reverend Betty Poe.  It was announced that Reverend Rob Kazinski will be our new pastor.  The SPR Committee recommended combining Sunday, June 20th (Pastor Beckie’s last Sunday) and Sunday, July 4th (Pastor Rob’s first service) to one 10:00 service.  The Council endorsed the May 16th – 11:00 service and the June 20th and July 4th 10:00 services.

Jessica Ebert reported for the Mother, Tammy Ebert for the Music Ministry.  Many of the Cancel Choir members will be traveling to Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton, Sunday, May 1st for the Scranton Praise Day.  The group will also be selling hot dogs and hamburgers at the Women’s Society Yard Sale.  Tammy needs soloist or groups for music during the summer.  She will be cataloging music this summer.  The choir will hold a Spaghetti Dinner in the fall.

Pastor Beckie announced the Sunday School has had a delightful change.  All volunteers are preparing for VBS with will be held in the evening from June 20 through June 24.  The theme of the VBS is “Parable Rap.”  Chris Ackerman will be the main rapper.  Teachers are also lined up for the Fall.

Donna Hamill voiced her concern for the Pre-School.  They are on a very tight budget.  The pre-school will have nothing to start with next year.  They pay out $1500 per month for payroll and $800 per quarter for taxes.  The supplies are minimal.  The teachers have had their own fundraisers through the parents.  We need to help this very important mission.

Pastor Beckie than gave her report.  She explained the work of the Ministerium had major changes in Lenten Services this year.  The services were held earlier in the day followed by a Soup and Bread Supper.  Attendance doubled.  The message was brought in a non-traditional way through the “Arts.”  The Good Friday service was held in Central Park.  Role-playing was included in this service.  Attendance tripled for this service.  The Ministerium is planning a large community event in the fall.  They will bring in a Christian Comedian and a Christian Band.  Hopefully this event will be held at the High School’s Track.  She reminded us that Mother’s Day is May 9th.  May 24th is a Transitional Meeting for Pastor Beckie and Pastor Rob.  Pastor Beckie will be sharing bulletins, etc. of the church.  Memorial Day Sunday will be a Hymn Sing at worship.  Pastor Beckie asked for our prayers for the Conference.  She felt this will be a resurrection experience and a new life for the church.  June 13th is Senior Sunday (Graduation Sunday), June 27 Ray Hamill will lead the service.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
